Summer Bookmark

I will be so fully occupied reading the pile of books from my nightstand that it made sense to create a new bookmark for the occasion.  These dusty must-reads have accumulated over the course of the school year.  Now that summer officially begins TODAY, I'll start reading them.  I don't think she's actually reading in this old, vintage photo, but here's my list:
1. Margaret Atwood, The Year of the Flood

2. Rory Nugent, The Search for the Pink-Headed Duck
3. Roland Merullo, Breakfast wtih Buddha
4. David Sedaris, Holidays on Ice
5. Richard Hughes, A High Wind in Jamaica
6. Roddy Doyle, Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha
7. Nancy Lord, The Man Who Swam with Beavers
8. Laura Esquivel, Malinche
9. Sherman Alexie, War Dances
10. Diane Wei Liang, The Eye of Jade
11. Alexander Porteous, The Forest in Folklore & Mythology
12. Tova Mirvis, The Ladies Auxiliary
13. Sarah Macdonald, Holy Cow: An Indian Adventure
14. Austen/Winters, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters
15. Maria Tippett, Emily Carr: A Biography
16. Susan G. Wooldridge, Poem Crazy

4x4 Friday: Sprite

Broke out the Copics again this week for the 4x4 Friday challenge:  Sprite.  The little fella is one of the new images from Third Coast.  I think he's wreaking havoc in my yard as we speak.

Altered Journal: I Was...

Came across some words of beauty this weekend from a 6th-century poet, seer and magician, Taliesin and decided to commit them to my art journal.  Here's the actual poem:

I was in many shapes before I was released;
I was a slender enchanted sword - I believe that it was done.
I was rain-drops in the air, I was stars' beam;
I was a word in letters, I was a book in origin;
I was lanterns of light for a year and a half;
I was a bridge that stretched over sixty estuaries;
I was a path, I was an eagle, I was a coracle in seas;
I was a bubble in beer, I was a drop in a shower;
I was sword in hand, I was a shield in battle;
I was a string in a harp enchanted nine years, in the water as foam;
I was a spark in fire, I was wood in bonfire;
I am not one who does not sing; I have sung since I was small.

4x4 Friday: Flower Fairies

My flower beds are bursting!  This week's 4x4 Friday challenge is Flower Fairies.  I'll not linger long here - temps are to hit 60 and the Alaskan sun is warm.  Enjoy your week.

Altered Journal: Tea or Wine

Wednesday Stamper:  Think Happy Thoughts
Theme Thursday:  Garden

So I've been reading The Art Journal Work Shop by Traci Bunkers and what a wild, colorful ride that is!  It's packed with clashing, colorful backgrounds, funky photos, eclectic fonts, and enough prompts to break through the worst case of writer's block.  It really is a fun read.

With that, I broke the seal tonight on the last Moleskine journal I picked up at Visions last summer and started a new art journal.  Collected some torn images from the Harney & Sons tea catalog that arrived in the mail yesterday, piled up a few choice acrylics, Copics, sequin waste, stamps, and began assembly.  Believe it or not, the biggest block for me in art journaling is my handwriting.  I suppose it's a good thing few can actually read it.  This fact alone might be advantageous in this type of journaling!

As for the page's topic, Tea or Wine.  This is the natural choice this late in May.  I am ready to give myself over to summer and three months of adventure.  Tonight I went with tea, but give me a few weeks and it will be wine. Fast forward to July and it will be wine with sistah April! :)
