At the Beach

Last summer I got to spend a long weekend with a very good old friend and his partner at the beach. We went to Ocean Shores, Washington. Now, Sitka has lots of coastline, much of it rocky, but there's just something magical about big waves, endless sandy stretches of beach, and the chance to catch up with an old friend. It was quite a peaceful weekend. I put together this little 5x5 canvas with that friend and that beach in mind for this week's MMM challenge. The little shell fragment is actually from a sand dollar I found there. I also tried my hand at using wax around the border of my canvas. There are golden flakes of UTEE here and there, much like the found treasures that are gathered from beach trips. Summer is coming! :)

I live within walking distance of endless white sandy beaches and crystal blue ocean and I am afraid I take it for granted!! I enjoyed your story about your trip to the beach in Washington. It set the tone very nicely to introduce your lovely beach scene. Great work.

It always enhances an art piece to hear the story of its origin. Thanks for sharing a special time with us in a very special way!

I love it Kersten - and the story behind it! I also live 10 mins away from a few good beaches - found my first piece of sea glass recently too!

This is really cool - I love the nostalgic beach feel to it!

I've always wanted to go to Ocean Shores - but my husband has a phobia of tsunami's - which if there were one at OS it would be devastating. Oh well ;)
