I'm always a bit enchanted with quiet time, when I can escape into my art room and just create to whatever whimsy dictates. Here's the ATC I came up with for a new challenge blog, One Powerful Hour. The goal is to post what ever fancy is created within a one-hour time period.
I am so happy to see the Gothic Arch challenge up and running this morning, and with one of my favorite themes: mermaids! This has become a regular early Sunday morning ritual for me. Collage images from ArtChix and Lisa's Altered Art. Stamped images by Time to Stamp and Christine Adolph.

Yes, a bit of sun would be nice. It has been an extended chilly spring here in Southeast Alaska. In another couple of weeks we'll be looking for warmer temps on our camping odyssey through beautiful British Columbia. Usually we find that mythical sun and its effects by going first inland and south. My 4X4 for Wednesday Stamper is comprised of a lot of alcohol ink, a collage clip from Vintage Charmings, and background stamps by Inkastamps, my blog candy winnings that arrived in the mail this week (thanks, Inka!).

There's music in this week's house - dans la maison, that is. In my house, Greg Brown croons, but in my challenge piece,The House of Crow, the singing can be blamed on the crows. This piece started out as an ATC and I revisited it as a house. All stamps by the divine Quietfire Design which you should check out for beautiful calligraphy stamps, flourishes, and of course crows.

I have captured all sorts of moments with my two-year-old daughter this month, the month her dad goes north to mine for gold. Some of these moments are similar to those captured in the expression of this little girl. Ready for magic, but too tired to fly. This week's Gothic Arch challenge is an open theme.

I put together some ATCs this afternoon using the new crow plate from Quietfire Design. I love all things raven and crow, so the ideas on how I want to use these images are fast and furious. Of course, I also have stanzas of Wallace Stevens' "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" playing through my thoughts.

This week's dans ma maison challenge involves something we don't experience in Sitka often - SUN. I say this in all earnestness as our average annual rainfall is 86 inches, hence the label of rainforest. So the expression, "Our hope for sun is golden and sublime" is a very humble request for sun and lots of it, especially since it is June and nearly Solstice. Happy summer!

This week's Dans ma maison challenge is one of fairy tales. I chose to focus on a fairy tale of song birds, using stamped images by Oxford Impressions and Character Constructions (thanks for the chair image, Cathy!) and collage images from Lisa's Altered Art. So I present to you the King and the Queen of the Song Birds, created on this chilly, Alaskan summer day, under the roof of my stamp room, on which ravens played all morning.

Frida Kahlo and Bob Dylan are about as close as I can get to Spain (Gothic Arch challenge) in perusing my art supplies. Reading up on Frida, I learned that her mother was of indigenous/Spanish descent. And Bob? I really like his song, "Spanish Boots of Spanish Leather". In white pen, I copied lyrics around the border of my arch from the last stanza,
"So take heed, take heed of the western wind
Take heed of stormy weather
And yes there is somethin' you can send back to me
Spanish boots of Spanish leather."
I was really tempted to go with Eliza Doolittle, but didn't have an Audrey stamp.
